Rich Mountain fire tower, located on the TN/NC state line (Greene County, TN and Madison County, TN), this fire tower is one of the few you can drive all the way to. However, the around 6 mile drive up Hurricane Gap Rd requires a high clearance vehicle. It is a dirt/gravel unmaintained road. The Appalachian Trail runs just beside the peak, and the tower has been restored and is open to hikers. It offers beautiful views of a sea of mountains.

Directions:

Turn south onto Lower Paint Creek Rd from Rollins Chapel Rd. Follow that road until it becomes Hurricane Gap Rd. Continue until it the Appalachian Trail crosses near the peak, then take a right on the road that will take you to the tower. This is a forest service road so there are not "road signs". It is 6.5 miles from when you turn onto Lower Paint Creek Rd until you reach the right turn onto the tower road. It is an unmaintained gravel/dirt road most of the way and requires a vehicle with high clearance.
